Uncle Winnie went by Icy’s house one day for something, only to find one of the granddaughters in some major hot water with her grandmother!
Debbie, his little niece, had met her match with Mamaw Icy! They had been equally awarded a good dose of stubbornness. They were butting heads that day and Debbie was in big trouble! It’s long forgotten what she did wrong… and doesn’t matter, really. We all know that Debbie got her share of spankings from Mamaw Icy (…what grandchild didn’t?) and that’s why they loved each other so much! This was just another one of those spankings.
Uncle Winnie decided he was going to try to distract Icy and save Debbie from the punishment her grandmother was about to dish out to her. He asked Icy about whatever it was he had stopped by for.
Icy responded to his matter, but said he would have to wait… she had a spanking to give out. Now, mind you, Mamaw Icy knew Debbie about as well as her mamma and daddy! And if she was going to spank her, she probably needed it.
Uncle Winnie didn’t give up… he persisted in asking her more questions, trying his best to turn her attention from the child. Didn’t work. Icy had a one-track mind and was determined to whip that child.
Uncle Winnie said, “But I need…..,” and Icy pushed up her sleeves and said, “…ok, but right now I’ve got to give this child a whippin’!
He tried every which way he could to distract Mamaw from spanking Debbie, to no avail.
Icy had set her mind on Debbie! She just kept chasing her around, pushing up her sleeves and telling him that he had to wait until she spanked that child.
Debbie took her punishment like a true Wright. But maybe that was because she was used to getting spanked. She probably got swats more than anybody and that’s most likely why she turned out so good, thanks to Mamaw!
Mamaw Icy spanked them all when they needed it, but Debbie and all the rest of the grandchildren knew that she only did it because she loved them. Like she would say, “I’m doing this for your own good!”

It appears that Debbie was behaving and Cheryl was the one who needed the spanking in this photo! (They took turns!)
Mamaw would have walked through fire for any of them and they knew it and ‘love her still’ with a passion!

Sara’s grandson, Richard, (Lee’s son), served a tour in Iraq. He followed in the footsteps of his father, Hugh, who served in Vietnam.
Richard (left front)
Richard honorably served with the 204th Military Police, Bladerunners in Baghdad, Iraq for a one year tour as an MP. Richard was there during the period of time Saddam was captured: an extremely violent time to be there. We thank God he is now home safe with us, enjoying his beautiful new baby girl.

Richard, finally home for Christmas!
Hugh (Photo Below) was stationed in Phi Bui, Vietnam with the 101st Airborne. His treacherous job was to patrol the jungles, rivers, and deny the enemy access into Phi Bui. This duty was a result of the successful capturing of Phi Bui in 1968. Hugh honorably served his country in Vietnam from January 1971 to December, 1971.
Hugh and Lee (Sara and Dave’s oldest daughter), have a daughter, Chaundra; a son, Richard (pictured above) and Teresa, their youngest daughter.
Both men saw combat during their time in service. They served their country well. We are all incredibly proud of both of them and will forever be grateful to them for their service and great sacrifice. Words are, as always, so insufficient in expressing gratitude for all that “they and hundreds of thousands of others” have given.
This is Teresa’s son, Adrian, who is very proud of his grandfather and uncle!

Clynese and Sara decided to settle in for the evening and have some “girl time.” Clynese had dreamed up this idea of mixing up a concoction for a beauty mask.
You know… a sister thing. A reason to spend time together. “It’ll be fun!”
Well, she threw everything in the mix but the kitchen sink. They smeared it all over their faces.
They were having a ball!
Then, all of a sudden, someone knocks at the door!
Clynese, being the lady she is, was horrified. She couldn’t be seen like this! Who could it be? They weren’t expecting anyone!
“So now what do we do, Sara? You go to the door! I can’t go to the door like this, Clynese screeched!” Sara screeched back, “Well, I’m in the same condition! I can’t go to the door either!”
Neither could figure out “who in the world” would be knockin at their door. Several people ran through their minds as they argued about who would be the one to go to the door.
….could it be a male friend?
Could it be a delivery man with a package?
Well… it really didn’t matter. The door had to be opened!
Big sister ranked higher on the ladder so it was Sara who had to open the door.
They may not remember who was on the other side of the door, but they certainly remember the fun they had together that evening. Two sisters sharing an evening together, being silly and having fun as only sisters can have with each other!

December 12, 2008 at 12:11 AM (Geneva and Joe, Growing Up Years)
When Geneva was a little girl, she told her moma, Icy, that she was going to run away from home! She had “had enough!”
Icy told her to be sure to write her a letter when she got to where she was going!
She told Geneva she would miss her.
Geneva packed her bag and left. She walked down the street… and after a bit of time had passed, she began getting cold and hungry!
It wasn’t long before she was sheepishly coming back through the front door, ready to warm up and get fed.
Icy looked up and said, “Oh…. your back!”
That was Icy! She knew just how to handle kids!
