Geneva and Joe decided to visit her sister, Sara.  Sara and Dave had just built a new home and at the time, “It was literally in the sticks!”   The area is now very populated.  But at that time, it wasn’t just out in the country; was “way, way, way out in the country!”  And directions were rather tricky because these were country roads, not always properly marked.  There was no expressway at the time either.

They arrived very late at night after driving 8 hours to get there.  Joe called it a “pilgrimage.”  They were very tired and could not find the house.  They were driving in circles, it seemed.   Frustrated, they went back to the small town nearby.  They called Sara to say they were going to try one more time before they just gave up and found a motel (…there were NO hotels within a reasonable distance).

Sara questioned them, finding out they were within just a couple of miles of finding her.  They had turned south rather than north at one point.  She told them to go back to that point, turn north and then look straight ahead for flashing lights.  Sara then had all her children go to different rooms and turn the light switches on and off.

Sara and Dave lived on a very tall hill, which worked to their advantage!   They all began to flick the lights, and continued until their hands began to ache.  Joe spotted the flashing lights and they were able to find their way to the house.

Only Sara could come up with a solution like that!  She’s brilliant!
